My Top 5 Holiday Movies

Since it is the season for magical movies and holiday cheer I figured I would share with you guys my top 5 picks for best Holiday movies!! Now some are very popular whereas others you may have never heard of before. So, I am just going to jump on in!

  1. Annie (1999 TV version)

Annie

Now this movie came out as part of The Wonderful World of Disney movie in 1999 on ABC. This happens to be my favorite version of Annie, yes, I know I am a weirdo and am not a huge fan of the original. It stars Alicia Morton as Annie, Victor Garber as Oliver Warbucks, and Kathy Bates as Ms. Hannigan. I just love the cast and their voices so that is why it is my favorite version. Also Disney stuck to the Broadway musical version more with their song selection versus the original movie version. Plus, this one ties in the theme of it being set during Christmas time so boom, Christmas movie. When I compare all the Annie’s’ that have been made since its debut on Broadway I would say this one is my first choice, then the original movie, then the new remake they made recently can just go away and hide. It doesn’t even make the list, they RUINED Annie. Ok rant over, if you haven’t seen this version you can find it to rent or own on Amazon prime as well as Vudu. I would highly recommend it if you are a musical fan.

  1. A Christmas Carol the Musical (2004 TV version)

CC

This version of the timeless tale of Scrooge and Tiny Tim premiered in 2004 on NBC produced by The Hallmark Channel. It starred Kelsey Grammar as Scrooge, Jason Alexander as Marley’s Ghost, and Jane Krakowski as the ghost of Christmas past just to name a few.  It retells the classic story but with the wonderful added music by Alan Menken. Shocker now I know why I love this musical so much, Alan Menken wrote all the Disney music from my childhood. This movie was a little harder to find. I couldn’t buy it or rent it anywhere. I had to add the Broadway HD subscription to my Amazon to watch it. It is worth the search though.

  1. Beauty and The Beast: Enchanted Christmas (1997 DVD Release)

BB Xmas

This lovely movie was a straight to DVD release sequel to Beauty and the Beast. It takes place while Belle was still a “prisoner” of the Beast and I guess she was there for Christmas. There are a couple plot holes, but it is cute and I love me some Belle and Beast. In a way it is slightly a prequel but it happens as a flashback with Mrs. Potts telling the story of their first Christmas with Belle in the castle. There are some new characters in it, like Bernadette Peters as the castle decorator (Angel on top of the tree). If you love Disney and Belle especially it is worth it! I just bought my copy with my Disney Movie Club membership, but you can find this one anywhere!

  1. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)

xmas vacation

“Hallelujah! Holy sh*t! Where’s the Tylenol?” Most quotable Christmas movie ever!!! I laugh so hard every year when I watch this movie, I think I do it about 10 times in the month of December. Growing up this was my dad’s favorite Christmas movie and when I was old enough to watch it, we would watch it together. We still do at least once! Now I have learned living with Michael (my fiancé) that it is his favorite Christmas movie besides Die Hard. PSA: Die Hard is NOT a Christmas movie I will stand by that sentiment forever no matter how much he argues for it. So now we watch it together and just sit there quoting the entire thing. This movie was released in 1989 and stars Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold just trying to make Christmas perfect for his family. You can find this movie literally anywhere it is a holiday classic! If you have been living under a rock and have not seen this movie you need to get on that.

  1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Live Action version 2000)

My all-time favorite Christmas movie is the Jim Carey version of The Grinch. I thought it was hilarious when I was a kid, I fell in love with it. I even had the collectable Cindy Lou Who doll that came with matching hair extensions for you. I wore those literally every day for two weeks. The Grinch is even better now as an adult because I relate to him on a personal level, like his attitude and outlook on life really speaks to me sometimes. Plus, all of the adult humor that is included is fabulous. I will watch this movie at least a couple times a week during the holidays and it is always the first one I turn on. If you have not seen this movie you need to go watch it right now, I mean it. Put your phone, laptop, or tablet down and go watch this movie. I am almost done with this anyways!

Honorable mentions:

The Santa Clause 1, 2 & 3

Bad Mom’s Christmas

White Christmas

Charlie Brown Christmas

Elf
